Holiday Planning: The Week of Thanksgiving

Oh. Em. Gee.

I cannot believe this is Thanksgiving week. So much to do, and I’m running out of time. So far we’ve planned our menu, purchased our ingredients, and hopefully you remembered to thaw your turkey in the fridge!

We had some company in from out of town over the weekend. Well, Sunday night and they left yesterday afternoon. But I did get my whole house clean on Saturday. That way I could relax and enjoy my friends. Yesterday after they left, I tidied the house, and worked on some laundry.

Today, I’m going to get my brine ready, so I can get the turkeys soaking this evening. I’m also going to get working on desserts. I’ll be making a pumpkin cheesecake, an apple pie and a chocolate pie.

I’ll share some pictures on my Instagram, so be sure to follow me there!

What are you working on today? How do you stay motivated to get everything done?

My motivation comes from a few different places. I like to hear from you guys to see what everyone is working on. I commit to posting pictures on Instagram so I know someone will be expecting something from me. One of my best friends will be making pies and desserts today as well. So we will be texting and chatting on the phone. Probably sending pictures back and forth. It really helps when you know someone else is working on the same thing as you are.

I am so excited for Thanksgiving!

Clean With Me: Kitchen

The kitchen really is the heart of any home. We cook and socialize there. School bags are often dumped on the counters along with mail, items from the store and pretty much anything else. Our week has been nonstop and my kitchen is suffering.

As Wife and Mom, I don’t want my home to be sterile- I want everyone to be able to relax and enjoy coming home.  But when we have a busy week, papers start to accumulate along with dishes and anything else you can imagine.

Last night, I didn’t get a chance to clean up before I went to bed. It was late, I was tired, so the mess won. But I’m tackling it today.

Here are my before pictures. Warning- this is real. My kitchen is messy. Please don’t judge me. (;

And after! It feels so good to have it done.

Please ignore the couple of piles on the counters. The small one closest to the edge is some stuff that I need to return. If I move it to my desk I will forget about it and never return it.

This pile…

…is it’s own nightmare. This is one of my clutter hotspots. I honestly just went through this pile while I was cleaning. These are my bills that I need to pay. One or two items from the kids schools that need taken care of, and paperwork from Hubbys recent doctors appointments. I need to figure out a system for these things.

If you have any before/after photos of your home I would love to see them!  It keeps me motivated to keep my own home looking nice. Let me know where I can find your blog in the comment section. Or just say hi!

Have a great day!

Thursday’s Thoughts

The past month has been INSANE. I feel like every week something new is happening.  We started house shopping, went to Vegas, work stuff for me, work stuff for my hubby, sick parents, sick kids and now we’re under contract for a new house!!  So some really exciting stuff + some really stressful stuff= super stressed out mom!!

Today I am home with both girls, but my oldest is sick. She has a pretty high fever and hasn’t really gotten out of bed except for her doctor appointment yesterday. The doctor said she has the flu.  I’m really just trying to keep her fever down and keep her hydrated.  She’s 14, but it doesn’t get any easier when they’re sick. It’s such a helpless feeling.

A couple of weekends ago we drove to Vegas! It was so fun!  Our first time and it was a super quick weekend. We drove there Friday night and came back Sunday.  My hubby won $90 at the casino, we walked up and down the strip, ate some good food, saw a bunch of weirdos, the Hoover Dam…and then we came home. It was quick, it was crazy, but we had a good time.

We have been unofficially looking for a new house for the past year. We’ve been going to open houses, and watching for listings in our are on Zillow.com, but we weren’t working with a realtor or anything. Last week we decided to get things moving-got pre-approved, scheduled a couple of days to look at homes for sale- and on day 2 we found our house!!! I couldn’t believe it. We looked at it in the morning, and had put in an offer that night. Now we’re going through the process and hopefully will close in March. It’s crazy how fast that happened. 🙂

I guess that’s what’s new here. Since I’ll be home all day and staying in, I’m planning on catching up on my cleaning. Maybe I’ll start going through closets and cupboards to get prepared for moving.

Have a great day!!
