So…I found a scorpion in my house today. This is the second one in less than a week. I am in panic mode over here. I know that the desert is filled with creepy crawlies. But- I hate all things that creep and crawl! Ugh.
Luckily the two scorpions that I’ve found were both dead. That means that something killed them and I’m thinking it was one of our kitties. Scorpions are venomous and I hope they are ok. If I see either of them acting oddly I will call the vet right away.
My heroic kitties 😻
Look at that thing!!!! It gives me shivers just thinking about it. Ewwwwwwwww
I guess that’s all for today. I just wanted to share this unfortunate event. 😱
Hi guys! What is everyone doing this Memorial Day weekend?
Saturday I spent my morning cleaning and running errands. And I had a friend come over for lunch. It was so nice catching up with her!! She even brought me a housewarming gift. She is so sweet. We used to work together, so we went from seeing each other everyday and this is the first time I’ve seen her in months. For lunch I made tiny meatball subs. It’s a recipe Hubby shared with me from Facebook. I think it’s one of those Tasty videos. I didn’t take any pictures- I am terrible about that. I really have to remember to take more pictures. Anyway- they were delicious!!
My housewarming gift-
Saturday night, Hubby and I went on a date!! We don’t do that often enough, but it was so nice. He bought tickets at The Roadhouse Theater. It’s a movie theater here in Tucson, they have reclining love seats and you can order dinner and drinks while you watch the movie. We went to a late showing of Pirates of the Carribean. (We LOVE those movies!!) We ordered some of their gourmet popcorn and beer.
Sunday is always family day. We had a cookout with burgers and hotdogs, potato salad, baked beans, strawberry pretzel salad and chocolate cake for dessert. (Again- no pictures) It was nice to hang out and eat yummy food.
Today, we are relaxing. Hanging out at home, and remembering those who gave everything for our freedom. ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend!
It’s been a while since I checked in. About a month and a half, I guess. It’s really true that time flies.
We ended up closing on our house on March 31st. April was spent moving, unpacking, and organizing. I’m very relieved to be in, I still am completely in love with our new home. We have beautiful mountain views, we’re in a great neighborhood and our kids are happy here too. Win, win, win. 😁
Celebrating our new house with family 🥂
The view from our backyard ❤️
We hosted Easter dinner after moving in 2 weeks before. We pulled it off and everything was perfect. My hubby was a huge help! He got all of my pictures and wall decor hung up, organized the backyard and even did some cleaning. Everything turned out lovely for dinner, and we had beautiful weather. I wish I would have taken some pics of the food and table settings.
Also in April- my youngest daughter had her school play. This year she didn’t have a part in the play- she was in the stage crew. She really loved it! The kids did such a good job. It was Seusical the Musical. You never really know what you’re going to get at an elementary school play. 😉 But they really did a nice job.
I hope you all had a beautiful Mothers Day weekend!! Saturday my hubby had a golf event, so I hung out at home, did some cleaning and caught up on my dvr. Also, the a/c went out!! That could be a terrible thing in May in the desert, but thank goodness we had some cool days. The a/c guy was able to get here on Tuesday and everything is fine now. Sunday started with breakfast in bed (the first time ever- I am always the first one up) and then we took the girls to Mt Lemmon. It’s kind of become our Mothers Day tradition. We went to my sisters house for lunch after (since our a/c was out) and had chicken ceasar salads. So delicious.
Hubby and I at one of the lookouts. Ignore my hair- the wind was crazy!
Not quite the top- but still an amazing view.
I’d love to hear about your Mother’s Day. I hope you all felt loved and appreciated. ❤️
I’ve always been fascinated by people who schedule their daily lives. Why follow a schedule when you’re at home? Isn’t the point of being at home to relax, be leisurely and do what you want? Why would anyone want to make a set time for housework?
And then one day I realized- I was following a routine without ever intending it. It just makes life easier. I make sure my daily chores and housework are done before any fun. Don’t get me wrong, my entire day is not scheduled. But it’s definitely helpful to get certain things done in the morning, before starting my day. And certain things done in the evening, before going to bed.
- 4:45-5am – wake up, pack hubbys lunch, pour our coffee, sit down to watch the news, kiss hubby good bye
- 5:30- shower & get dressed
- 5:45/6-more coffee, check emails & social media, read Bible
- 6:15/6:30 wake up youngest for school, start laundry, unload dishwasher, make breakfast, pack lunches
- 7- youngest daughter out the door for the bus, wake up older daughter for school, flip laundry
- 7:15- fix my hair, make up, wipe down bathrooms, start more laundry, walk the dog, start on daily chores
I would love to hear about your daily routines. Morning, nightly, whole day- anything really.
Eleven pounds might not sound like a lot, but it sure makes me happy. I have struggled with my weight for years! I would exercise for months and not drop a pound. I would watch my diet, but cave after a week. This time, I’ve stuck with it, and it working.
So I’ve been following a 1200 calorie diet. I’m not being super strict with it. I’m using the My Fitness Pal app. I’m pretty happy with it. It does what I need it to. It tracks my steps, but a lot of times I’m not carrying my phone around with me. If I go out walking, I’ll make sure I put it in my back pocket.
Breakfast is usually just a yogurt. I found these 100 calorie Chobani Greek yogurts and they are delicious!! They work well for me because I have a HUGE sweet tooth.
It tastes like a cookie!!
Lunch is usually a lift salad with oil and vinegar, sometimes I’m even skipping the dressing. I only do that if I have a lot of toppings for my salad- grillled chicken, light cheese, veggies- and let me tell you, roasted chickpeas on a salad are amazing!!! They are a perfect substitute for croutons.
Today, I wasn’t home for lunch, so I made a to go lunch. One huge apple, a serving of Triscuits, and a 100 calorie Special K treat.
Then at dinner time I just make whatever. Tonight we’re having grilled chicken and veggies. If it’s a crazy night and we’re going to order pizza- I might have one piece, and then a big salad.
So that’s it. I haven’t even been keeping up with working out. I will commit to walking in the evenings for at least 15 min. Hopefully that will boost my weight loss.
Any thoughts? Tips?
Around New Years I overheard someone say that their resolution was to read one book per month. What a great idea!! I love to read, and a lot of times I’ll read several books in a week. But sometimes I will go weeks or months without reading a book. I love this idea because you are only committing to 1 book- but you can read more if you’d like. Also, 1 trip to the bookstore every month is not going to hurt my wallet.
So my latest book is What Alice Forgot, by Liane Moriarty. I really enjoyed it!! It kept my attention, has a good story and likeable characters. The sister was a little depressing. I found myself stopping when it came to her chapters.
I have loved everything I’ve read by Liane Moriarty. Her books take place in Australia, which I find so interesting.
I would love to hear your thoughts on What Alice Forgot. Or any of Moriartys other books. Also, would love suggestions for my next read. 🙂
The past month has been INSANE. I feel like every week something new is happening. We started house shopping, went to Vegas, work stuff for me, work stuff for my hubby, sick parents, sick kids and now we’re under contract for a new house!! So some really exciting stuff + some really stressful stuff= super stressed out mom!!
Today I am home with both girls, but my oldest is sick. She has a pretty high fever and hasn’t really gotten out of bed except for her doctor appointment yesterday. The doctor said she has the flu. I’m really just trying to keep her fever down and keep her hydrated. She’s 14, but it doesn’t get any easier when they’re sick. It’s such a helpless feeling.
A couple of weekends ago we drove to Vegas! It was so fun! Our first time and it was a super quick weekend. We drove there Friday night and came back Sunday. My hubby won $90 at the casino, we walked up and down the strip, ate some good food, saw a bunch of weirdos, the Hoover Dam…and then we came home. It was quick, it was crazy, but we had a good time.
We have been unofficially looking for a new house for the past year. We’ve been going to open houses, and watching for listings in our are on Zillow.com, but we weren’t working with a realtor or anything. Last week we decided to get things moving-got pre-approved, scheduled a couple of days to look at homes for sale- and on day 2 we found our house!!! I couldn’t believe it. We looked at it in the morning, and had put in an offer that night. Now we’re going through the process and hopefully will close in March. It’s crazy how fast that happened. 🙂
I guess that’s what’s new here. Since I’ll be home all day and staying in, I’m planning on catching up on my cleaning. Maybe I’ll start going through closets and cupboards to get prepared for moving.
Have a great day!!
